Juniors
Silkstone Golf Club has a strong Junior Section and the Club takes its responsibilities towards these youngsters very seriously. A Junior Welfare Committee (JWC) manages the interests of the Section and in Bill Gordon, our Junior Organiser, we have a dedicated man who always regards the interest of the juniors as being paramount. A wide range of activities are arranged for them, particularly at weekends. Children with a handicap of 28+ are allocated a time slot on a Saturday afternoon under the guidance of Nick Parker a member of the JWC. Once they are capable of playing to a handicap of 28 or better then they join the group on a Saturday morning for whom a wide range of competitive activities are arranged. Youngsters are also encouraged to participate in the full range of club competitions. At this time a number of our older juniors have represented the Club’s first Team in league matches against other Clubs within the Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs. We accept juniors from the age of 8 but we do ask that parents enrol their children on a coaching programme with the Club’s Assistant Professional, Steve Dalton. This can be organised through individual coaching or as part of group tuition through the Young Masters Programme. Youngsters can enrol on these programmes before they become members of the Club. Obviously many of our junior members are children or grandchildren of members of the Club but this does not have to be the case. However we do insist that a close relation of any junior member should be at the very least a social member of the Golf Club. At present the cost of social membership is £48 per annum. To apply for membership then an application form should be filled out and they would then be invited to come to the Club and meet the Junior Organiser and the captain of the Club. We like to keep this a very informal occasion but the standards and expectations of the Club are clearly laid as well as outlining the opportunities that are available. We must stress that the Club does have a code of conduct which we believe to be very fair but one which we must insist is adhered to. To comply with Government legislation the Club has adopted a Child Protection Policy and this is something that we take very seriously. Should you be interested in joining the Club then an application form can be obtained from the secretary at the Club. Details of membership costs and entry fees can be found elsewhere on this site.
